Crunches alone will not create a six pack?

I've been told that no matter how many thousands of crunches, you'll never get a six pack.

This is because the muscle will grow bigger, but won't fix the fact that there is pounds of fat over it.

I don't want to run or bike or anything.

I just want to do tons of crunches........but if that won't work?

:(

the only way would be somehow you did them so vigorously that it acted as a type of cardio...and shed the LAZY FAT around your FAT STOMACH.

you can't do that...doing crunches will tone your muscles, but nothing is gonna show unless you lose the fat. eat healthy, do lots of cardio, and crunches on top of that.

you need a certain percentage of body fat (i think its around 6% for males) for a six pack....so no...you wont ever get it by crunches if you are fat. get off the couch and run a few miles every day.

6% is a bit extreme...as a basis of comparison, most olympic athletes are in the 4-8% range, and many professional athletes are in the 6-12% range.

The general rule of thumb for seeing a six pack is somewhere around 10% bodyfat, give or take a few percentage points. A LOT of the way that your stomach muscles appear is genetics, though. Some people have to do weighted crunches everyday to get some nice definition going, while others can have nearly the same appearance from simply being slim...or maybe doing a few situps every so often.

But no, if fat is blocking the appearance of the muscle, then no matter how many situps you do you aren't going to see your abs. You MUST do cardio (or find some other way) to shed the excess weight.

Dude you need to lower your bf% to at least 13%.

You 'can' get away with a higher bf% IF you do the the ab training properly. 1000's of sit ups won't help as much. That will make your ab muscles not bulk out as much as if you made each REP hard thus increase the intensity. Incline sit ups with 10kg-25kg on your chest is a good place to start. I would start at 5kg or just the incline to strengthen your abs and back suitabily.

Do work your BACK also. That will help to tighten up your abs also.

Doing Squats and DeadLifts will also make your abs strong and when you lower that bf% you will have your abs 'showing'.

If your 'tanned' it helps also.

Also magazine photos help A LOT in the 'perception' of it. Not many people walk around RIPPED all the time.

Simply DEHYDRATING yourself for a day or two will SHOW your abs MORE it is that simple. When people go to a 'magazine' shoot they'll do this and 'peak' for it so they'll look good. Most are on other banned supplements.

If your not willing to do the biking, sprint intervals or just long distance cardio you will never get a 6 pack as you will have fat over your abs like everyone does. The person who the 6 pack is 'lean' to a point where you can see his abs.

http://heangkoing.homestead.com/files/M6.JPG @ 12.7% bf. The scales were the standard grab ones that measure you. I WOULD NOT TRUST IT TO BE VERY ACCURATE or when people say they are sub 10% without being SERIOUSLY ripped. I would always go with a higher bf%. 13-14% imo.

Just work hard and you will have it.

Correct. You can do as many crunches as you want and you still won't see your ab muscles if there's flab over them.

Crunches and abs exercises will not remove the flab in that area. Only diet and and an overall fitness program will. You can't "spot train" (lose fat in one particular area by exercising that particular area).

You have to loose the lard some how before your crunching will show results. Runing is besst since it works you abbs as well and this will help excentuate any x-pack you get from crunching. I think a simple low calorie diet would be enough though. As long as you are crunching too.
