Cruical Doesn't Know What Chips They Use

Yup. They'll buy from whoever can supply the appropriate chips at the appropriate price.

While they often use Micron (after all, Crucial are a division of Micron), they also use Infineon among others (This doesn't happen often, and has tended to happen when Micron couldn't supply enough of the specificied type of RAM).

Well to correct everyone in the post, I have been a long time purchaser of Crucial ram since 1998. Everyone of my systems since '98 have used Crucial ram and tryto use it in every system I built for ppl due to their excellent stability, lifetime warranty and fantastic service. I have purchased pretty close to 80GB if not more of ram total from them; some through them directly, other times either through ebay or newegg and other vendors. I can safety say they do NOT exclusively use Micron ICs only. There have been a few times in the DDR1 era where I found Samsung and one time Inineon ICs on Crucial sticks. I wish I still had them to get a photo of but they have since been gone with its systems. With DDR2 I have only seen Micron chips.

Do they mostly use Micron ram? Yes they do, but they are in no expectations to use Micron ICs at all. They have to get and make orders to all IC fabs, even Micron. I get the feeling the people must think Crucial receive the chips free from Micron.

DasFox, they are a great company. I may sound like I work for them, LOL. But I am just a person who has had the best luck with RAM from Crucial and will not build a system for myself with any other brand of ram but theirs. (5 desktops, 3 laptops, 1 server since 1998) Just understand that they simply need to push ram out and the CS ppl you are talking with just deal with technical support, ordering of parts, and RMAs. They don't/can't know what is going on in the manufacturing floor. Plus it can change at anytime, then you would be upset if you did order a set and it wasn't D9's as it is not listed in the published specifications on their web site.

crucial generally uses micron chips.

the little while when they used samsung / infineon for ddr1 was micron was having problems fabbing ddr at the time. i think when notebook memory needed micro BGA parts for higher density modules, micron also used some other brands since their chips were still those fat body ones at the time.

the latest micron chips are the square micro bga now.
