Crucial RealSSD C300 128GB SSD 200 shipped

I'm very tempted.

have a patriot 45 buck visa from some ram to spend......that would help me take the hit

To someone who has no SSD and never owned one, is this a good deal? Anand has a lot of (old) articles on issues with this drive..

if they are really old they arent for this drive, this is the sata III(6gbps) drive that lauched like q4 of 2010 I think

FWIW, there are NE User Reviews dating back to early August, so Q3 seems more accurate.

The biggest argument in favor of this item may be the unenthusiastic review AT gave its successor this week. I was holding off for the latest version... until I read the review. 'Expect I'll dither until it's sold out.

Nutz. Just saw this thread, clicked the link and yep, it's sold out.

SOLD OUT
Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
OUT OF STOCK.

Nice, I bought this at full price only 4 days ago. It still hasn't arrived yet 🙁

Contact Newegg. Sometimes you get a sympathetic CSR (or they see your 50 page order history :sneaky: ) and give you the discount anyways.

It's a good deal if you really want or need a sata 3 drive, but for most people its overkill. As the newer sata 3 drives come out in the next couple of months you can expect the prices on the older sata 2 models to drop. They're good enough for gaming and ordinary use. Instead of 120gb sata 3 you might be able to buy a 180gb sata 2 for the same price.

I don't think that kind of pricing will happen before Black Friday - all bets are off by then. 😀 (well, other than the crazy Kingston $75 rebates)

The older drives which are 34nm have higher costs. Older drives at 25nm have crappy performance. New drives like the Intel 310/G3 won't be that cheap, and the new/upcoming higher performance drives will actually be more expensive (at least initially).

The C300 is still competitive with the newer high performance drives, as long as you use it with Trim.

If you have SATA3 these are great drives. I think the Sandforce are better in Sata2 though, although more or less the same.

The new SATA3 drives are out and they are faster, but mainly in sequential performance. The performance overall is so close that I really doubt you could tell a difference unless you were encoding some movies or racing someone else in loading in an online game (the reason I'm going raid 0 😀).

I just decided to stick with the C300, since crucial has ironed out all the bugs with the firmware updates and the price is pretty cheap. Eventually the new drives will come down in price, but with performance being so close I didn't really want to wait.

back in stock again!

Still debating whether to buy it or not....probably going to be doing that till it sells out again...decisions decisions...sigh. Do I really want to pay 1.69 per GB after tax?

What are you on the fence about? Is it mainly the cost? Are you wanting one of the newer drives? Are you waiting till there is a more definitive answer to which drive you should get? Are you mainly looking for high capacity low cost, while not getting outdated in the near future?

The C300 will drop some more since the new drives are out and especially as the prices of the newer SSDs drop. My guess would be that it doesn't drop much more than $20 (during a sale) in the next few months. It's very competitive with the newer drives so there isn't really a need for crucial to drop the price that much. Unless of course they want to dump stock, end production, and concentrate on the C400 or M4.

In for 1! After seeing the reviews for the new generation of SSDs I figured there isn't much of a point in waiting any longer. 🙂

I bit the bullet and bought one. been waiting for another good deal on an SSD. after reading the review on the new intel one, this seems like a good buy
