I'm about to build myself a new server (not a gaming rig) and want to put 1gb of DDR memory in it. My question is which memory to buy ? Money is not really a problem so I'm willing to spend more on 512mb sticks rather than using all four Dimm slots with 256mb. Crucial just came out with their 512mb modules so I haven't heard anything about compatability issues with the board I will be using (Abit KR7A-RAID). But the crucial modules use 7.5ns chips and are rated CL2.5 which is a tad on the slow side. I was also thining about buying original Infineon modules. Original means that both the chips AND the PCB are from Infineon. no 3rd party crap like OCZ. The Infineon are avail. with 7ns chips rated CL2/CAS2 at the same price as the Crucial. Infineon even has 1gb modules which are then rated CL2.5 and only come as registered ECC. The third contender would be Mushkin. While I have read a lot about their memory on forums like Anandtech the review of their PC150 memory from the largest german computer magazine (C'T) is still in the back of my mind. C'T had the Mushkin memory tested at two professional labs and the results were quite bad. The SPD timings were all screwed up and the memory more or less just sucked. So I'm not sure if I want to try their DDR memory if their PC150 stuff is already this bad. Any advice much appreciated.
