I was looking at Crucial Web site last night near midnight to buy one DDR 2100 Buffered 512 MB memory at $184. A few minutes later, I made a refresh, the price went up to roof, it was $205!!!
Just a few months, it doubled and tripled the price of memory. So based on the calculation, current $205 will be $510, and then $1040,... Looks no sign in the end!
Is it a good idea to buy more memory now? Or boycott the Crucial. Their behavior is a typical pattern of monopolist. Feds and those states AGs should go after Crucial. I really don't care MS if they are not doubling and tripling the price of software like Crucial is doing!!!
 
So, the price went up 11%. What's the big rush to go out and buy it? Boycot, why? It's called supply and demand. There not going to keep their prices the same and lose money when their supplier prices go up.

just order it from newegg or someone else before they have a chance to raise the price tomorrow morning. Its at $96 with 10 % discount at crucial for non ecc-non registered-eekk.

well... if u wanna kno heres the story of ram prices increasing! so dont blame crucial or mushkin for their prices, its not their fault!

STORY:remember when ram prices were cheap as hell? well... they were too cheap and dats where companies lost BIG money on making ram, so... production slowed down, and with a LOW production and a HIGH demand, prices go UP! prices were DOWN when production was HIGH with a MODERATE demand, and companies weren't making enough money or profits so many stop making it or make less and sell to places like crucial.com @ higher prices forcing crucial.com and other places to RAISE their prices!
crucial buys for triple the price, they sell for triples the price!

I don't usually post in threads that are out-of-place like this one is, but it sounds like silver8 is upset because he ran into a bug in the Crucial website which caused the price to keep multiplying when the page was refreshed. silver8, search your hard drive for Crucial cookies and delete them, then give it a whirl.

I remember paying $296 plus tax for one 256Mb Crucial PC133 CL2 DIMM. When the price dropped below $100 last year, there was wild elation here in Hot Deals. When it hit $70-ish, people were foaming at the mouth with joy. When it hit the unthinkable price of about $30...

You can start complaining again when it's hit $296, ok? 😀😉😛
 
Hehe. I bought a Crucial 2100 256MB stick for $32 when I didn't even have a system that used DDR. I remember thinking: "It can't go any lower!". Sure enough, two weeks later it was down another five dollars. I was pissed that I didn't wait and save an extra FIVE dollars! Now I'm upset I didn't buy a dozen of them at that price. 🙂

Pretty amazing considering I paid $153 less than two months ago. About a week later the price dropped about $5 :|

BTW the 512 stick I bought had Samsung chips. I wonder if these are Micron now?
 
To illustrate marill999's post, I made a little graph showing what reduced supply does to RAM prices and any other prices for that matter.

The graph has demand staying constant. I luckily bought some Crucial 256MB PC2100 from Best Buy a month ago for $25.

By constantly raising prices they are gonna keep decreasing demand, especially when I bought 2 x 256 mb pc 2100 Crucial for $25 + tax after mir.... I will not pay these outrageous prices..... I can wait....

You can buy Mushikin pc2700 512mb for 211.00, or Samsung pc2700 512mb for 175.00 shipped.
These will run cas2 pc2400 and backward compatible.

No, HIGH DEMAND = HIGH PRICES.

The demand is high because Intel's P4's now use DDR as well, so lots of people prefer to go that route instead of RDRAM.

Lower demand = lower prices. Yes, rising prices has definitely led to reduced demand. If consumers stop buying then 1) supply will increase or 2) Crucial will lower their prices digging into their profit in order to entice buying again.

You definitely don't see people buying DDR RAM anymore when they don't even have a system that supports it. Thats what I did.
