Hot! I think I'm waiting on a 512 deal though. 256 is a bit small nowadays don't you think? I have to monitor # of games and delete many with a 128 currently.

Also don't forget 5% cashback from Discover, or 4% from Mr. Rebates. Too bad both the $10 off $100 Visa promotion and $20 off $250 Amex promotion have expired, which would have gotten us within the $1/GB range.

256gig is plenty of space for just games.

depends on how many games you want installed at the same time really and assuming you also have your OS installed on it there goes another 30-40 GB as and thats not counting any programs like photoshop that take up a large amount of space

70gb left on my Crucial 256. I have BF3, SWTOR, WoW, SC2, ME 1,2,3, CSS, and DOTA2 installed. Pretty good amount to me IMO, especially considering how huge WoW and SWTOR installs are.

...as long as you don't like having a lot of games.

Whats it matter, you can uninstall games and install them back with ease. Programs are different because everyone configs them just so for how they like that. I doubt many people will play nonstop enough game to fill that much space without having some sit around for months on end.

That's why you get 2 of them and do a RAID-0 striped array, effectively doubling your speed.

Very tempting.
I already have a 80GB Intel SSD and want to upgrade. If I buy this one, do I still need to do a fresh Win7 install? Or can I just copy/clone from the smaller SSD to the big one?

It should clone with no problems..
Depending on the program you use for cloning, you might have to expand the partition afterwards..

and at the same time absolutely destroying reliability and data integrity. you are now twice as likely to lose all of your data, that really worth the increase in speed?

that's why you don't save critical data on a raid 0... save it data to raid 1, run programs from raid 0.

on a different note... just received mine on thursday, will be installing later today... that's was quick shipping... 2 days.. and i went with the free shipping (4-9 days)

m4 is at the top of the heap for reliability of sata 6gb/s ssd's. The only drive I would put over them is an intel 510 series, but I've never seen a sale on one of those. Are you increasing failure risk with RAID0? Of course, but with such a stable, reliable drive the odds of failure are still very small. And as dajeepster mentioned, put your mission critical data on a Raid1 array. Or, even better, just back it up in 3 separate locations.

I would happily go with a 500gb drive for ~ $1/gb, I just haven't seen any good ones at that price. So RAID 0 2x256gb looks like the best option to me atm.

I have a couple of the 128GBG M4's in raid0 - pretty happy with them, no problems with the raid setup slowing down at all. I'm thinking that Crucial should have a new drive out soon with the new Marvell controller. I haven't read anything on this yet, just assuming.

I have had Crucials, Intels, Sandforce's and even a couple of Kingston Toshiba based drives - Happiest with the Crucials.
