Crucial Ballistix

Well after doing a look over on the codes its not coming up with too much info - with how micron codes IC's info on them it would be implied to say the IC's were made in week 36 of 2007 and the 25F isn't coming up. the last documented 25 series IC's were GKX, GQG, HCD, and HCJ

also you removed at least one side of that stick - did you remove the other? as the coding might be different on that side...

also why does it matter - what counts is if they work to specs or beyond 😛
 
i'd be curious to know as well. i have the same ram, but haven't tried overclocking it. it works out well just running them at stock speeds with my quad. (400x9)
 
Yeah I removed both sides (as in picture 1), the chip codes are the same on both sides. I was just curious. They ARE definitely D9 at least, yes?

Haven't got my mobo and processor yet for this new build, so I don't know how they perform 🙂
 
Those are D9GMH/D9GKX.

Crucial has been labeling the IC's for themselves lately. I don't really know why but it is ok they still clock like champs.

Alas, I think I might be partly to blame 😱. I brought the whole issue up in the Hot Deals thread I posted for the Ballistixs. A few people mentioned that the heatspreaders were askew when the RAM arrived, so I mentioned possibly peeking under them to take a look.

While were on this subject, I have 4x 1GB sticks of the Crucial/Newegg Lanfest (eg. Tracers with blue led's) and I'm wondering if anyone here knows if they will be the same D9's or a different set due to it was a limited offer? Sure, I could go remove the heat spreader and look but sames I don't want to risk breaking these limited edition sticks, I'm gonna pass.

Nah - they are good old D9 GHM to the best of my knowledge - heard many good things about those sticks - I got some unused Ballistixs laying around if ya wanna trade 😛

Yeah, I read a few people being able to get them to ddr-1066 or higher, and nah, I'm good with my sticks 🙂

no - only other way is if the MFG specifically states what IC's you're buying

anything else is peoples experience and speculation
 
so what kinda speeds will these 800mhz tracers IC's run stable at? My supertalent 800mhz pc2-6400 will orthos at 890 & run windows at a max of 950-960. If you were to get pc2 8000 or 8500, what are the recommended brands? hyperx, ballistix, etc?

really everything is hit or miss - I've had 667mhz Crucial stuff run at up to 1200mhz on a bit of extra juice and have had some Micron ECC 667mhz that would run 1000mhz at CAS 5 on 2.0v. Transcend kits that would just stop at 750mhz and another that would do 900mhz just fine and my current kit of Ballistix 800mhz don't OC for anything over 900mhz but underclock especially well at low voltage

If you're planning on getting a 2 gig kit (2x1 gig sticks) I'd recommend Ballistix, Mushkin, G.skill, Super Talent makes some premium kits but are rare these days, Team Group is still putting out high end kits. I'd suggest taking a look at Transcend AxeRAM as well. Kingston, OCZ & Wintec also - seriously most DDR2-1000 ++ kits are pretty good stuff and price could be the deciding point

if you're looking at 2x2 gig kits I'd look to G.Skill & Mushkin

Honestly as I stated above nothing is a sure thing *ever* with overclocking - I don't wanna thread crap but you can only wish for the best as you might be that guy to get some bunk parts that only work fine at stock. DDR2-1000 or anything else is only said to run at the listed specs

all the companies and more that I listed put out good sticks - make sure you also look into customer service of the company as well - at that note is one of the reasons I tout Crucial's horn alot - they replace my stuff fast if I have issues when I go too far.

at about 100 bucks on average for any DDR2-1066 kit I can't say there are too many *bad* choices around - I remember paying double ++ that for 800mhz kits
