I was looking at Crrucials website the other day and saw their new memory. Tracer PC 4000. The timings are 2.5-4-4-8. I have seen some reviews that say you should look for tighter timings for an athlon system like the pc 3200 ballistix. I really like the light show these put on. Will i really be set back with this stuff over the pc 3200 stuff?

Those timings suck. I get 2,2,2,5 out of my corsair 3200 XMS XL. I thought the Ballistix stuff was better than that. Check out the normal ballistix.

Those timings are weird, especially since the 256 MB chip of their regular Ballistix RAM has those same timings... I don't know if it's a typo or what. If it's not, I'm definitely unimpressed with the Tracer Ballistix RAM.

That said... what's a Heatware?

Yea, I wanna know what a Heatware is, as well, because it seems people want it for me to sell stuff on these boards :/
Other than that, I think I'm getting 2.0-2-2-6 from my Corsair PC2700 Value RAM, so I dunno what to say about those timings.

Crucial Ballistix PC3200 timings are: CL-2-2-2-X So they are right in line with your XMS memory. The Ballistix PC4000 which is DDR500 memory is faster then PC3200 and will needs a little higher timings.

The Trancers have no ill affect on the timings...

According to the AT review, Ballistix can run up to and over DDR500 @ 2.5-2-2-8 timings.

I currently have mine at DDR450 @ 2.5-2-2-8 and currently testing higher at 2.7v.

Crucial used to have 2.5-3-3-8 at DDR 500 on the website. But there must have been some ppl that couldn't run that...

2.5-3-3-8 1T at DDR 500 runs fine... 2-2-2-5 1T runs fine at DDR 400, even with 2.6v.

Crucial's biggest thing is compatibility, so they are going to list the slowest timings that work in all motherboards. There are lots of mfg's that list tight timings, but they only work at that speed in a select few motherboards.

Ballistix DDR500/PC 4000 will have 2-2-2-5 timings set by spd when run at 200mhz/ddr400, so get 2gb (1gb x 2) of DDR500 @2-2-2-5 and forget about low mem for a long time.
