Crucial 512MB PC3200 400Mhz DDR

For the ignorant among us, what sort of backward compatibility in this PCnnnn DDR memory market?

In otherwords, if this is a hot deal, could this item be used instead of earlier / slower sticks?

It's not a bad deal, but not much to get excited about. Crucial is good stuff, but it's also CAS 3; there's a Mushkin stick that does 2.5 for only a dollar more.

I grabbed one of these.. looks good =) Of course, it isn't the best deal, so I'm not grabbing the two more sticks of 3200 RAM that I need,

Pretty good price. But I'm going to wait. I heard memory prices should be bottoming out again in a month or two, because of over-supply. If PC3200 512MB, hits $30-40, then I'll buy.

I've been looking at this for the AMD64/ASUS promo deal. NE has several 512 PC3200 sticks in the $76-$80 range. Some peeps said they received Elixir CAS 3 on their Mushkin sticks. Most people around here will not be able to tell a difference in performance between CAS 2.5 and 3 according to an article I read that was posted around here awhile back. Maybe I'll do like MrCoyote and wait until prices bottom out. I can use some PC2700 until then.
