I know there are multiple threads discussing the previous drops but I checked today and it has gotten even lower after staying still for a couple of days

That's almost $10 in less than a week!! I'm still not buying until we go a week (or 2) with no price changes :)

Unfortunately, RAM prices tend to go up rapidly without warning. Especially if there is an "accident" somewhere in the supply chain.

I bought two sticks of 512mb PC2700 for $63 shipped each. I've heard reports that they are genuine Crucial sticks. The way I figure it, there is more room for prices to move up than down, and I've never been any good at catching things at the bottom of that curve.

Where did you find the $63 "Crucial" sticks??

CnetPC - search on Crucial in Hot Deals and you will see it. It is $62.50 shipped for one stick. It does not say Crucial, but everyone so far has received Crucial

Edit: Here is the thread

I ordered from CnetPC and I received genuine Crucial sticks. This is particularly hot for me because I would have to pay sales tax if I ordered direct from Googlegear or Crucial. Not a whole lot, but it would be about 10 dollars for my two 512 MB sticks.

yeah, it's hard to tell when prices will hit the bottom. I think about a year ago or so, the bottom for Crucial 256 DDR was $25, anyone was still waiting for it to drop further. When they realized it wasn't gonna go down anymore, it was too late; it went back to $40 within a week!

Yup, I just picked up a 512mb 2700 piece from Crucial. With tax, but minus 5% coupon it came to $78.15 shipped free via FedEx 2-Day. Unfortunately, I need the RAM now - otherwise I'd wait to see if it goes down any further...

That is true, prices go up really fast. Especially since SDRAM is more expensive than DDR. Some stores that do not keep a lot of stock on hand change prices every day. So you can check when prices jump up and down. DDR is supposed to be going up, I heard from a friend that works for a distribution company in california.

Micron=Crucial.

Crucial == Micron or SpecTek

I posted a reply to that thread, I *think* those DIMMs that CNetPC are selling are acually SpecTek chips, based on some of the factors involved, and the fact that they seem to have no overclocking margin at all, based on the comments from those that have recieved them. (SpecTek is Micron's second-tier memory brand, mainly cheaper and OEM-sold stuff only. I spelled it wrong in my posts on the other thread - at least I think it's a 'c' in the middle.)
