Thanks for the update...
Since my M4's haven't died yet, I think I'll wait a while for some feed-back on this..

I'll install mine as soon as I get home. I'm glad crucial was on top of this one!

Update: Installed just fine. Just make sure you switch to a SATA2 port before you try as SATA3 ports will not work.

Can you flash RAID 0 members individually, and not destroy the RAID ?

The only way I think it might be possible would be to flash them individually on a different machine...not changing the settings on your current machine

Shut down...

remove drives...remember which bay they go in. Flash seperately in a different machine...

put back in their original bays and boot up...only way, if it can be done this way. I have removed two hard drives in raid and put them back at a different time and they still booted...just don't break down the raid...

Good deal, thanks. BTW, is there some way to determine how long a drive has been in service? Is the duration logged anywhere on the drive?

Using CrystalDiskInfo (or a similiar program) will tell you that.

Gonna flash mine tonight, will report back. Also, here's a link on how to use a USB thumb drive instead of bootable CD.

0309 is working for me now but it was more challenging than previous updates. In the past I kept the drive connected to its Intel SATAIII port but this time the updater couldn't find the drive. I switched to a SATAII port and it still couldn't find any drive. Finally I switched the drive mode from RAID (don't have any arrays, am "RAID ready" which is basically AHCI) to IDE mode and the update worked. It still said 0009 immediately afterward but said 0309 after a reboot.

Then my Renesas USB 3.0 port didn't work. It worked before the upgrade because I made a backup first. I eventually got it working so all's back to normal now.

This is a good way to upgrade without burning a boot CDR: http://www.storagereview.com/how_upgrade_crucial_ssd_firmware. That's written for the previous upgrade but still works for 0309. Maybe this info will come in handy for someone else.

All good here also - forgot to take the M4's out of raid the first run through - but once back into AHCI everything was uneventful.

Sata 3 ports worked just fine here.

No need for all that Bud. Just load defaults in the bios and boot from cd or usb. Update FW on drives and enable raid and good to go. Worked for me no problem.

Installed this without a hitch.

Quick question and I think I have the right of this. The more full your SSD is the slower your write benchmarks will appear if you bench your drive's performance with a program like CDM ?

When I initially got the drive my benchmarks were in line with what I saw for M4s. I benched it after the firmware update and reads are still spot on, but writes are lower than they were before.

updated mine, both of which were in an array. just set the bios to IDE, flash both, set bios back to raid.

Lots of the things you guys do are from the old days with terrible BIOS and terrible OS. All you have to do its make bootable flash drive, put bios on it, reset computer. ta ta update.

Most people don't have to change anything. Sata 6 does not even need changed.

I can't imagine this has hit many people so far. Someone would've needed to buy an m4 drive within the first 6 weeks of release and had it run constantly or close to it.

Thanks for the info... Way easier than I anticipated ..

Thanks for the input, but we are updating the firmware on the Crucial M4 SSD's ..

Similar to updating BIOS, but other considerations some of us have to deal with, like whether we are running RAID or not.

Burnt the .iso, had the thing booted, and flashed in under 5min.
I love crucial and plextor's easy iso update method, great for non-windows users or people with multiple systems. This alone is enough to make me not consider competitors who don't offer the same.

I only have 1977 power on hours, but was eager to test this upgrade out :)

I would recommend that anyone who has a board with a third party controller on it (JMicron or Marvell) and is using it, to turn in off in your BIOS before flashing any drives connected to the Intel SATA controller.

The flashing process hung for me until I turned that off.

I don't know how these supplementary SATA controllers got past both the manufacturers validation and the motherboard vendors validation because you hear nothing but poor speed, compatibility problems or random problems such as what you just said. They're virtually fit for nothing. Glad I chose a board without any.

I did mine in IDE mode, was set as RAID before since using M4 64GB as SSD cache drive on my Asus Z68 board, anyway no issues updating firmware via IDE,as you can see typing this post on same PC...I set my PC back to RAID after.
