I agree that the OP probably over-dramatized the title, and could've been explained in calmer terms.

However, everyone still bashing the poor OP needs to learn to read and tell time.

The OP posted this initially on December 19th, 2011.

According to AT, Crucial acknowledged the issue on January 6, 2012:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5308/crucial-to-fix-m4-bsod-issue-in-two-weeks

According to AT, Crucial's firmware fix (FW0309) came out January 14, 2012:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5424/crucial-provides-a-firmware-update-for-m4-to-fix-the-bsod-issue

Fix was provided within a month, so hardly any major worry, but give the poor guy some credit for trying to give people a head's-up.

It's not a major worry... unless you have 5184 hours on your drive and your machine is freezing every hour. Then you can't use your computer for almost a month.

People need to lay off the OP. Yes, Crucial did provide fix and OP may have been a little overly dramatic, but factually he was correct: these drives were inherently faulty, every single one.

Who's getting public revenge? As I see it, the OP was not being a drama queen, his posts didn't have that snide quality or sarcasm and he was pretty much spot on that all m4's were going to die. No amount of face saving posts now is going to change that fact.

Or, instead you could RMA it and get a new one back within a few days. They'd probably even cross-ship if you asked nicely enough, crucial has an excellent reputation for taking care of their customers after the sale. Hopefully, they'll be able to get through the turmoil they just experienced and come out on the other side ok.

A laptop computer will also work, but you’ll have to connect the drive and navigate to the system's BIOS menu. (Please refer to your system manufacturer’s documentation on how to access the BIOS.) Allowing the drive to sit in the BIOS will improve the odds that the power cycle will work. For laptops, we don’t recommended using a USB enclosure powered via USB. In addition, Apple users must hold the Option key while they power on the system (with the SSD installed). This will boot the Mac to the Startup Manager screen. The Startup Manager screen works like the BIOS screen on a laptop, in that it gives the drive power without any data throughput.

1. Laptop users will need to be in the BIOS menu, or Mac Startup Manager as stated above. The computer will need to stay powered for 20 minutes. We recommend you don’t use the laptop during this process.

2. Power the computer down and disconnect the drive for 30 seconds, by removing it from the drive bay. If you have an mSATA drive, remove it from the port.

3. Reconnect the drive, and repeat steps 1 and 2 one more time.

4. Reconnect the drive normally, and boot the computer to your operating system.

5. If the latest firmware is has not been updated to your drive, do so. Click here for our firmware updates.

Hello and welcome to Anandtech forums! Sounds like you may have a dead drive, though it may be fixable.

We would love to try to help you, however, first make a new thread. This thread was last updated almost 2 years ago. Remember to read the rules and guidelines thoroughly; best not to bump a thread that old.

Feel free to make a new thread, where everyone can better help you. Thanks.
