The GDM-FW 9012 is a very nice monitor, however IBM ThinkVision C220P can be had for $518 new. Its not worth getting the Sony secondhand for a bit more viewing area unless you can pick one up for less than $350.

I do not think they (CRT's) will be going away anytime soon.

Can you find me a new Sony Artisan? I'm serious. The only affordable 'serious' monitor no longer exists. Sony phased it out with plans to replace it with an LCD, but the tech wasn't there and unless you've already got one you're fvcked. I think this alone is a sign that the CRT is on the way out.

My LG Flatron 915FT+ was $169, has a built in 4-port powered USB hub, does 1600x1200@88Hz, and can do the Apple 30" Cinema Display resolution (2560x1600) @ 64Hz. Yes, it's actually completely readable with small fonts at this resolution, but you don't really want to be looking at 64Hz.

Show me the LCD that does this for less than 15x the price.

Plus the dual inputs (VGA and BNC) selectable through front controls lets me hook it to both computers without ghosting added from a KVM switch.

wow so Nikon and Pentax makes all the glass on CRTs.

I did not know that. Can you show me a link?

It's in the article you posted.. Nippon and Asahi are the company names of Nikon and Pentax respectively.
But then again, it could be a coincidence that both companies have the same name as the lens makers and makes glass also. 😕

What I meant by that was, they will still exist in one form or another. The need for them will not completly go away. They remind me of the vacuume tube. The transistor has almost compltely replaced the vacuume tube except for in audio where in the past decade or more it has made a comeback and is considered by many to be the best way to listen to your audio. CRT's may become less common but they will maintain a niche for a long while to come.
