Why can't they just make a smaller/lighter one, but keep it 19 or 21"?
I'd buy that any day over an LCD.

We have smaller, lighter monitors. They are called LCD monitors.

They can, it just really isn't cost effective

CRTs are more complex and complicated, and take up more space and weight. Space and weight is actually a big factor as it increases the shipping costs from the factory to the supplier, from the supplier to the store and from the store to the consumer (for online stores).
One thing I wish they did standard with LCDs though is have a glass over it so you can still treat it like a CRT (touch it, clean it with windex, etc). Guess there must be a reason why they can't do that. That's the only thing with LCDs there much more delicate. My cat has left a few marks on mine... she cuddles with it because, she's weird.![]()

I never move my monitor so how much is weights means nothing to me. Actually I like it bigger, that way when somebody is cheating in CS:S I can round house my monitor out of frustration and it doesn't even budge. Try that with a LCD lol. When my CRT died I went on Craigslist and bought a replacement CRT. Actually 5 of them, so I have 4 back ups for when the others die and they're hard to find, even used
Even the "way less energy" thing is a moot point as I got 5 screens for $100 bucks. I have a huge (literally lol) collection of 21-22" CRT's in my garage. I scour Craigslist about once a week in hopes I'll find somebody locally selling a 24" Sony WS CRT monitor.
CRT might be a very small niche market, but we still exist. If I was rich I would start a new company that made new CRT's. The company would do well and have zero competition. I don't understand why somebody hasn't figured this out. Cater to the people who hate LCD's like myself and you have a market. Hell they could probably get all the needed manufacturing equipment for fairly cheap from a place that use to manufacture CRT's.

You love DOS and CRT's. Surprising combo.

I like easy to use, and I like IQ. Dos is easy for me to use, I grew up on it. And CRT's have better image quality. I don't see how anyone who doesn't care about space would choose an LCD over a CRT, there is no comparing the IQ between the 2. And they have Widescreen CRT's for people who "need" wide screen support.
Tell me what an LCD can do for me? besides provide inaccurate, washed out, over bright colors & piss poor black levels? I use Vista & XP in addition to DOS. But there's no reason for me to use an LCD for anything.

CRT monitors suck. Are they still even being made? I always see them out on the side of the street for trash collection (along with CRT televisions). I'm sure you can find one by doing some dumpster diving.

BAH! kids now-a-days are lazy ass bastards who don't want to do any hard work, them lugging around my 22" Trintron would teach them a lesson in what it means to sweat and work. I think I'll find an appartment on the 4th floor with no elevator and have them carry it up the stairs.

I believe the majority of those must be out of focus Shadow Mask CRTs. Trinitrons never die.

In much of these threads though no one has really used a top tier monitor. Most using LCD's are using crappy panels. Most don't need uber specs though anyway.
