What is the best choice CRT Vs. LCD for gaming, and why? Any recommendations would be helpful. Price up to $800.

Whoa. Stop right there. Listen to the guy above me...
With $800, do you know what kind of CRT you could get? And what kind of LCD?:(
Granted, you can find many a 15" LCD for under 800, but there are reasons to stay away.
Against LCD:
Lower refresh rate builtin, meaning ghosting/blurring in any fast movement (DVDs, games, etc.)
Resolution also builtin, meaning any other one is going to look like utter crap.
For:
Much less room.
Coming down in price quickly.
Looks cool.
Looks aren't everything though. With eight hundred dollars, you could get a mondo, HUGE, 21" CRT. Nearly the best, if not the best. Of course, that will take up half a desk...

crt monitors are usually considered better because the refresh rates are higher so there is no ghosting
they also have a choice of resolutions and the pitchure is sharper.

lcd monitors have a "native" resolution which means that they are best viewed at that resolution
they are much lighter which gives them an adantage for lan parties

there are some lcd's which promise no ghosting and even though there aren't that many more are comming out

if considering an lcd then look at the specs closly and use sites like toms hardware guide to get reviews
the contrast should be 400 + and refresh around 25 ms or less are best

there is more and hopefully someone can expand on this

hope this helps

You could get an Awesome 21" CRT flatscreen trinitron for $800 and have change. It would be much better for gaming. Beware though - it'd be much heavier and take up more room than an LCD ;)

I wanted to thank everybody that participated in this thread. You confirmed my thoughts, and the CRT 21" Sony G520 (same as g520p, p is for purple) is exactly what I planned on getting. The only local store that has it is CDW in Chicago. Does CDW pricematch?

Does anybody have any experience with this monitor?

The reason I want it is for : 1) Gaming
2) Video film editing
3) Picture editing (has nice high res)

I think you should get a nice 21" Trinitron CRT. CRTs have higher refresh rates and look good at all supported resolutions. A CRT is definitely better if you're going to be gaming a lot.

CRT all the way!

I?ve had the luxury of using both, and I still prefer CRT over LCD. Though others opinions may differ, I think CRT?s are unmatched when it comes to gaming proposes.

I currently have a Sony G220R ?17, and will be getting a Sony G420S 19? this week (was trying to get a Hitachi EDP monitor, but oh well).

Like others have stated if you are going to spend that kind of money get a CRT 19?+. The Sony G520 is top notch; you shouldn?t have any quandaries about that beauty.

Though I must state, Sony (or Trinitron) monitors are a little harder to tweak then shadow mask monitors. For example the geometry can be a little difficult to set to your liking. But once you have it set, you?ll be a very happy person.

I wont even discuss the lines (aperture grill) because after a few days you?ll forget all about them.
