I have a 34" CRT Widescreen HDTV. I was just wondering how long it would possibly take to actually burn in an image to the screen. Say if I was watching shows in 4:3 and the black bars were on the left and right sides. How long would it take to burn those bars onto the screen?
 
Why would black burn in?😕 Doesn't black on a TV mean absence of color meaning no excited molecules? How does that differ from an all black screen saver that doesn't harm your screen?
 
I've never heard of a case of burn in on a direct view set. Direct view TV's don't tend to be at risk for burn in.
The reason rear projection CRT's can get burn in is because they CRTs are driven much harder due to the projection system. As long are your contrast is not set to 100% you should have no issues.
