CRT to DVI Adapter, does it work?

I have a FX 5200 Video card that only has CRT output (some other models has DVI but my card doesn't). I recently purchased a 40' HDTV that has DVI-D Input. I was wondering if i can just buy a CRT to DVI converter (not the typical dvi to crt..) and use it on my HDTV? My friend who claim it won't work because DVI is digital signal.. Do i need new video card?

In theory you could buy a "converter" that would work, but it would cost far more than a cheap video card with DVI output. Oh and the results would be inferior as well.

Bottom line, buy a new video card.
