CRT Bandwidth

These two monitors use the same Diamondtron tube, but have different
electronics:

IBM c220p = 360Mhz bandwidth
HP p1230 = 420Mhz bandwidth

Higher bandwidth means (I think), higher refresh rates, better image quality
at higher resolutions...

But if both these monitors are run at, say 1280x1024@85, with the same
video card, are there any significant reasons for choosing 420Mhz bandwidth
over 360Mhz? Or is 360Mhz plenty fine for most mortals?

if its not any more money get it but other than that no noticeable differences. they both will have the same scan rates and resoulutions.

As long as you aren't approaching the bandwidth limits of the CRT then you should be fine. Once you start doing that though the image will become blurrer.

It depends on the resolution you plan to run. The higher the resolution, the more bandwidth is required.

Even if a monitor can do the resolution you require, check the image quality - poor image quality/definition is a symptom of insufficient bandwidth.

Assuming the 2 monitors are pliced reasonably similarly, I'd take the higher bandwidth model no questions asked.

Higher bandwidth implies higher quality components, and I you do your research you will find bandwidth is what really seperates budget monitors from high end monitors.
