Nice deal, thanks OP. I've used Crown power amps for years and they've given good performance and reliability. (Never had to use that 3 yr. warranty.)

I wouldn't use it in most home systems though - most decent home audio gear will provide better sound and the forced-air cooling on this amp is seldom optimal for home listening environments.

PS - basic shipping ($14.50) is pretty reasonable for a 30 lb. item.

thats really tempting.... but i think the wife would kill me. too much of my dj gear already taking up more space than she likes :/

Crown makes some awesome stuff. This is also a great choice for those of you who want to power a subwoofer.

I'm using a similar Crown amplifier at home (Crown K2, bridged) to power a sub. It works very very well.

At $170, it's definitely hard to beat.

Nice deal but I've stopped myself from buying from Abe's before due to really bad vendor feedback. If anyone gets this without any sales games, I might be in.

All of the Crown XLS are on sale.
The 402d is a little cheaper a possibly a newer model.
It shows the same pic on crown's product imfo/ website.

I don't think that the Crown amps I've used are unusually loud for pro sound gear (comparing to say QSC and Crest), but they're probably noisier than you would want in most home listening environments.

The newer 'D' models have 3-speed fans that'll usually run at the lowest speed during home use. I haven't heard one myself, but they're supposed to be quiet enough that most don't bother with fan mods. The older 'B' models (402B, 602B, etc) did have loud fans and you'd probably want to swap in quieter 80mm fans if you get one of those.

Also, these amps do not have 12v trigger inputs. So you'll have to actually get off the couch to turn the amp on & off. If that bothers you then you'll be better off with an amp marketed to the home theater crowd -- Rotel, Sherwood Newcastle, Adcom, Emotiva, etc.
