Crown Royal XR

Well for my 30th bday i got a gift of Crown Royal XR! I'm a whiskey enthusiast so i was pretty stoked about getting this as a gift especially since Crown Royal isn't normally a whiskey conissuer's drink. I liked how my dad tried to jack my gift from me saying "this is too expensive to just drink...just leave it at my place."

First the box and bottle in the bag was really nice. I poured 2 glasses one neat (straight up)and one on the rocks. I took a nice pull on the neat and WOW! this did not taste like Crown Royal...this tasted like very expensive Cognac. Then i took a pull of the one on the rocks and enjoyed that release of the wood barreling and complex flavors. I ended up drinking another glass.

Pros - Complex, clean, a bit fruity and woody...almost cognac like taste. Very smooth...intoxicating. Something you would open and pour for very special occasions unless your balling.

Cons - Expensive $200 is the usual price with tax...blended whiskies (but damn i think i might be more open to blended stuff.)

Yikes. I abhor Canadian whiskey in general, so I won't ever be trying this unless I come over to your place or something 😛
I'd be willing to give it a try, but not at that price.

I had some a few months ago, and I agree.
I cannot stand whiskey, but I really enjoyed this.
Then, the family member (who is a sales executive for Diageo) told me how much it was per bottle. 🙁
He gets all that stuff for free...
I will probably never taste it again. 🙁

"In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the woman."

I've wanted to try it but can't bring myself to pay that much for something not single malt and not from Scotland.

Well I can't say I'm a Canadian Whiskey lover, but I do drink CR neat. At $200 you've exceeded my max price point by $100 and I'll probably never try it, but thanks for the review.
