They have the cheapest VCD and DVD i've ever seen.
check it out!!!

---

This link was to a Hong Kong distributor and may be selling pirated program material. The low price, and the fact that it is even available for sale, make this at least questionable.

Keep in mind that the DVD is region 3. So you either will have to have a region 3 or region free player. Most stand alone DVD Players are hard locked at Region 1 in the US. Computer DVD-ROMs however can usually be cracked to region free mode.

Sorry folks, anything from HK is probably pirated. $22 for a pirated DVD doesn't sound good. The real DVD goes for $55. If anyone hasn't seen this, go see it at the theatres now! Not the best martial arts film ever, but definitely up there! :D

I remember seeing PS2 & Dreamcast CDz for $3 a piece over there! :disgust:

btw, the dvd sells for 180 HKD (Hong Kong dollars) and charges 30 HKD for shipping. Today, 1 HKD is equal to 0.128 USD. 210 HKD is then $26.92 shipped. i'm not totally sure what rate your credit card charges you, although they might also charge you a fee for international charges. i've never done it before. used another bank's atm in canada one time--will NEVER do that again =)

christon, you have no idea what you are talking about. This movie sells for around $25 like most other DVDs there, I don't know where you got your $55 figure from. Just because it's from HK, don't assume it's pirates, that's just plain stupid.

most vcds are 320x200 resolution... expect poorer quality video & sound compared to dvd's... if u ever downloaded mpeg's from the internet, that's vcd quality... vcds are actually mpegs... u can always rename the .dat files on a vcd into .mpeg files and it'll play the same =)

while dvd's are 640x480 or 800x600.. i forget the exact size of dvd's but i know it's two times the the resolution quality...

I think I'll go with the DVD.......this was one of the best movies I have ever seen. Just because of how they mixed everything up from being true to old classic kung fu movies to modern technology and the story was packed with action, comedy, drama, and yes ladies....romance. A+ movie.

heh just got back from this movie a few minutes ago.
I wasn't a big fan of it...the fighting was good...but the plot had some huge holes in it.

Maybe this is just a cultural thing...but the whole movie seemed a little cheesy.
What did you guys think?

I think that was the best Fsckin' movie. It was awesome. I love martial arts films and this is one of the best. Ang Lee did an awesome job on this one. I just ordered the book. As far as the DVD vs. VCD check out www.vcdhelper.com. It explains the differences btw the vcd svcd and dvd on the site and you can always look up info on google. The vcd's look ok at 640x480 and are mpg files as mentioned above in another post. I ordered a few of the dvd's
by akira kurosawa. I'll post again when and if I receive them.

javathehut, there are legit vcd in hong kong not everything is pirated. a legit vcd quality is about on par with vhs. if you need further proof i have a legit star wars ep 1 vcd with in a real casing, it was released in hk a little while after the vhs came out here in the US.

the vcd format is very popular in hk/china that is the reason for legit releases US and most of the world probably use vhs but asia uses vcds. also if anyone really wants to see the quality i can take a screen shot of it for u.

The theatrical release was last July in HK, so I would assume by now that the DVD/VCD should be already released; so uOoGLy should be right. The DVD could be legit and not bootleg (can anyone confirm?)

As for the movie itself, 2 thumbs up for one of the best movies of the year! If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for? The opening act dialogue is great too (observe Yun-Fat's face expressions - he's great!), quality acting you don't see in typical movies like T2 or the Matrix. The only thing that could've been improved is towards the end... but overall, this movie is great. One of my co-workers saw it and thought the story was like Star Wars??? WTF, he completely missed the point :( Must be some kind of culture gap... Anyway, I loved it, but that's just me maybe?
