It's crazy to find out just how light those things are versus their size.

A hollow aluminum tube, and wings full of fuel.

Then there's a gentle breeze....
"I wet 'em. How 'bout you?"


Oh, those poor little turboprops. Wow.

Nice camera work to whoever shot the video - it's weird though - it looks like they're almost hovering rather than moving toward (or away from) the cameraman at a pretty significant speed.

I've landed quite a few times in bad crosswinds in a cessna. The key was always to maintain enough airspeed when landing and keeping the wing facing the direction of the wind down enough that it doesn't cause lift. I'd typically try to land about 4-5 knots faster than usual to counteract winds and cut my power much closer to the runway.

It gets scary when you cut power and the aircraft doesn't want to lose altitude....you've got virtually no control at that point.


Edit: Btw...I know it's totally different for jets. They have a much longer approach but a much faster decent considering their mass. (meaning, they drop altitude that last 30 feet much quicker) I wouldn't want that job.
