Crossplatform file encryption

I'm looking for an easy file encryption format that would be compatible across OS X, Windows and Linux.

For example, I encrypt a file in OSX and that same file can be de-encrypted in Windows or Linux, or vice-versa.

I'm really looking for a way to send encrypted documents between my family and myself. The problem is, we all use different operating systems!

Thanks!

Truecrypt.org

It is free, very secure, and works on all 3 major operating systems. (Linux, Windows, OSX)

You could also use gpg, but that makes things a little more complicated. A third option is AEScrypt.

Thanks! I didn't realize that TrueCrypt did encrypted containers..... Now I just hope it's easy enough for my Dad to use.
