I've got two laptops hooked up with a crossover cable. Upon hooking them up, I got limited connectivity until I set the ips to 192.168.0.1 and 2. The workgroups are the same on both computers. Netbui was also installed.

As of now, both laptops can ping each other. In My Network Places, one laptop can see the other, whereas the other cannot. The one that can see the other, however, cannot access the other one, it gave me some spiel about privileges or something.

Right now it's set on simple file sharing. Would it work if i turned this off and set up specific user accounts? I'm just worried that that may not alleviate the problem.

In addition, all firewalls and antiviruses are turned off.

1. simple file sharing sucks, turn it off
2. Network neighborhood sucks, ignore it
3. unc paths (\\computernameorip\sharename) ftw

Nope, still didn't work. But maybe i'm doing it wrong.

So, if i'm using Windows explorer to browse files, i'd type in the address bar:

"\\Sony\"

where Sony is the name of the other computer. It should list all the share folders right? As of now the whole C drive is shared, so I figured it would show that.

When I do type that out, I get "path not found" and "something about privileges.

1. Make user on computer A called "erik" with password "test"
2. Make user on computer B called "erik" with password "test"
3. Make a new folder on the C drive of computer a, put one file in it, and then share that folder as "magic" with share permissions set to "everyone" and "full control"
4. On computer B, log in as "erik" and click "Start" "Run" and type in "\\" then the IP of computer A (we will call that 192.168.200.200), so "\\192.168.200.200\magic" and see what happens.
5. if you get an error, turn off the windows firewall on both machines and try again.

Ok, the computer Sony can receive from Toshiba, but Toshiba cannot receive from Sony.

Ipconfig shows that Sony has "Unknown" under Node, whereas Toshiba has "Peer to Peer"
