I have a very old hub. It doesn't have an uplink port. I am trying to use a DLink 701 router with it (1 local, 1 global port). Do I use a crossover cable from the local port on the router to any port on the hub, then a straight through cable from the global port to the cable modem?

also, what is the standard cable arrangement for a crossover cable? i have been making my straight through cables
WO-O-WG-B-WB-G-WBr-Br

is that correct??

any help would be great

Generally, a straight-through cable is used to connect a computer directly to a router with a single port, so you'll instead want to use a crossover to connect a non-uplinked hub port to the router's local port. As for connecting the router's global port to the modem, I'd just try both provided you have extra cables. I think it actually varies from setup to setup.

As for cable order, go here and scroll all the way down the page for a picture of how to arrange the wires in the connector.
