*Crossing Fingers*....Will an Abit KT7-RAID handle an XP CPU?

I'm looking to buy an XP 1700, but can't afford another motherboard just yet. According to Abit's site, my motherboard (KT7-RAID) only supports 200FSB processors up to 1.2GHz, and I can't find documentation on past BIOS updates.

Can I get my (great) old motherboard to run an XP 1700??

Thanks

it might run it, but it will run underclocked

the 1700+ has a default multiplier of 11x
so if you run it on your board it will run at 1100mhz

Abit provides specific information here

If I were you.... I'd take them at their word.

<< ABIT KT7 / KT7-RAID / KT7E all version and KT7A/KT7A-RAID V1.0/1.1/1.2 cannot support AMD Athlon XP processor. >>

Save your money and buy a CPU AND board AND memory when you've saved enough, because as the others mentioned, even if it runs it won't be worthwhile 😉

Why don't you just stick a 1.4 Tbird in that baby?
Or maybe your board is revision 1.3 and Athlon XPs ARE supported

Thanks for all of the replys. The urgency of this CPU purchase is secondary, as I must order a new hard drive immediately. I've decided to cop myself an Athlon-C 266 1.4 (100 x 14 because my chipset is kt133)

From Insidious and Spankthru's link:
KT7/KT7-RAID: 100MHz (200MHz DDR) FSB processors only. Fastest processor supported is the Athlon 1400(100) - but it must have locked (disconnected) L1 bridges. AthlonXP processors are not and will not be supported.

The only remaining question is whether or not my Chrome Orb will sufficiently cool my 1.4

Thanks again, yall are always helpful on this site
