I am currently running a 1gb Sapphire HD5870 (gen1) and am looking to add another HD5870.

Is there an appreciable performance difference between adding a second card with 2gb of ram as opposed to a second 1gb card?

In other words am I limited by the original card that only has 1gb of memory?

I'm running two 23" screens but looking to get a Dell U3011. BF3 is on the horizon and I would like to play at least close to maxed out settings...

If prices are pretty close, say $10-$20, get the 2gb card. That way you could always upgrade the other to 2gb if you don't like ultra high end performance. Honestly, however, the odds are good that you would never see any difference, so if it costs too much more then just get the 1gb card.

Thanks. It's about 50 bucks difference but I can't see myself ever getting rid of the original card. In reality it seems like its not so much a price issue as an availability issue.

Thanks again
