Crossfire and Core 2 Duo

Hello there everyone. I'm just looking for people's recommendation for a Conroe motherboard.

What I'd like:

- Dual Core 2 ready.
- Crossfire compatibility (future, getting a 2nd card)

I was looking at two in particular:

There just seems to be so many conflicting reports and issues with some of these, it just leaves my head swimming at times. I guess, ultimately I just have to make a decision and roll with it. I'd just like to make the best educated decision prior to buying, even if it doesn't work out. Look forward to your thoughts and suggestions, thanks!

If by "Dual Core 2 ready" you mean compatible with two Core 2 Duo processors, then neither of these boards would fit the bill

Otherwise, I'd go with the Abit.

Sorry about that, typed this up quickly at work. I meant Core 2 Duo compatible. Thank you for pointing that out. I'll clarify further. I want just "one" E6600 Core 2 Duo. I want a motherboard that will last me for the next year or two, and is pretty stable right out of the box that supports those two functions that I mention. I was just looking for some friendly advice and people's personal experiences. You see so many horror stories out there, and I just wanted to get some final input before pulling the trigger on the motherboard.

However, (& I'm saying this as an Abit fan) the AW9D if used with 2 GFX cards with dual slot coolers like on an X1900XT won't have an accessible PCI slot for your X-Fi.
Maybe by the time that you get around to the 2nd card there will be PCI-E sound cards or perhaps the latest gfx card will be more powerful by then than X1900XT Crossfire?

Yeah, that's the thing. Wanted to order this week. Is there anything definitive about when this board will hit the shelves? Anyone have any inside information?

The last thing that I'd like to add before ordering all my parts from Newegg, is that of the DDR800 RAM. To use that article as a baseline, the upper echelon RAM is too expensive for me at this time, so I thought I get some final advice on this.

If someone has this board, and these RAM modules please let me know. Just looking for some good feedback before I buy all these parts at Newegg tomorrow. Between the two, I figured on the Corsair, because it has the $50.00 mail-in-rebate. If someone has any other suggestions on the RAM, I'd appreciate hearing that.

I'd get some G.Skill-better warranty and compaitability than those two memories. However, I believe Corsair is compaitable with Asus.

I'm using the Corsair 6400C4 modules in mine. Works great. Both types you listed will work. The Corsair is probably a little more popular. 4-4-4-12 seems to be the more common to use from what i have been seeing but it also depends on what you are trying to do. Alot of people are also using GSkill modules as well.

Ok, thanks customcoms and Skott. Glad that I didn't get the crucial. I guess that I'll go for the Corsair or some G. Skill. Nice that the Corsair has that $50.00 mail in rebate. I'll look over some G. Skill, and make a final decision tomorrow. After some research, yeah it does seem like a lot of people are using G. Skill with this board. So I guess it comes down to G. Skill or Corsair.
