Crossfire 16 x 16 vs 8 x 8?

Is there a difference in performance or is it negligible? I have a Radeon 4850 and a 4870 and will run them in crossfire.
 
In some games you may lose 5%, but that's about it. Please note that your 4870 will be downgraded to 4850 levels afaik.
 
It depends on the motherboard this pair is going on. The only cards that can possibly see bottle-necking with x8 lanes are the HD6990 and GTX590, from what I can recall seeing.
 
I've seen test where a gtx 580 SLI setup was a few percent faster on 16x16 compared to 8x8 but as the test was done on a 1366 board for the 16x16 and an 1155 board for the 8x8 I took it with a pinch of salt as it seems obvious to me that the only way you can get meaningful data is to run both tests on the exact same setup and manually resrict the number of PCIE lanes.
