Officers said that hundreds of people visit the shrine every day to offer hens and goats to the five crocodiles living in the pond. Part of the ritual also involves bathing in the water, meaning that pilgrims have to take their chances with the fierce inhabitants of the pond.

If your gonna bathe in the same water as 5 crocs, yea.. you deserve to be dinner. Or better yet, hang a big juicy steak around your neck in a ocean full of sharks.. same results.

God/Allah/Whatever wanted to have the guy closer. So he had the crocodile act as a transportation worker. Now the guy's (presumably) with his deity. Everyone should stop complaining.

The crocs are just bored with the diet of goats and hens everyday. Variety is the spice of life, or did he tasted like chicken.

um, this has absolutely nothing to do with Islam. There is nothing in the religion that talks about sacrificing to crocodiles. Based on the practice and the name "sheik" , the person was most likely a Hindu. Hindus practices animal worship, and the crocodile reference is probably related to Ganga/Makara in Hinduism. Bangladesh has a huge number of Hindus that practice their religion around Muslim shrines. The Muslim shrine is also probably just a tourist spot, who knows...
