Crock Pot Madness!

It's crock pot madness in our household!

Pic

From left to right:

8 bean soup with mushrooms and bacon(kidney, pinto, lentil, black eyed peas, split peas, black beans, white beans)
Pot Roast with baby potatos, carrots, celery.. onion, garlic..
Lentil stew with lots of carrots, celery and bacon.. onion, garlic, rosemary, thyme and bay leaves..

The house smells amazing.. 😀

After they're done, we're going to systematically put servings into square pyrex dishes, freeze them, then put them in food saver bags for later consumption.

Total cost for all this food was like 50$, and it will feed us for weeks.

Edit:Just ate the last of the leftovers from this. 🙂 Actually I think there's 1 serving of the lentil soup left, but yeah. Of course, it didn't last us 2 months in and of itself, but it supplemented our eating nicely.

Such a great way to save money. The FoodSaver is the key. Highly recommended!

Got some beef stew in the crock pot now. Didn't go all out and fill all 3 up this time, though we should have.. lol

Wow, $50 seems a bit high.

Sounds all tasty. Should be worth it

Edit: But then again... it is winter...

Does it? For like 15 quarts of food? lol

The pot roast was 20$. Everything else was pretty cheap. Yeah, maybe only like 35-40$.

The point is that it's a lot of good, healthy, hearty food.. and it's cheap. 🙂 It should last at least 2 weeks for 2 people.

Yea ok, I skipped over the fact that you have 8 different types of beans in one soup. Adds up quickly.

That they do. The recipe on the back of the Lipton Beefy Onion soup for pulled pork is really pretty good.

Also, shrimp jambalaya in a crock pot is WONDERFUL.

Oh, and split pea soup. Ooo...i should make that again.

Is that a homemade smoker? What'd you do about getting the hot plate to hold temp?

I had to remove the thermal fuse and bend the bi-metal strip a bit.

Now it holds ~220ºF at the "Medium" setting on the dial.

This summer, though, I'm just going to get a PID digital temperature controller. They're only like 35-40$..

I'm currently cooking up a meal in mine too, actually. A layer of onions, a layer of corn, 5 italian sausages, and then on top a 5 pound roasting chicken. Rub the chicken down with Mrs. Dash, and also dump some salt, pepper, garlic powder, Bacon Salt, and some MSG in there. Takes about 10 minutes to set up.

I realize all of that sounds disgusting when put together, but somehow when it all cooks together it comes out tasting fucking FANTASTIC. I couldn't tell you why.

What are your guys' favorite crock pot recipes? Almost every Sunday my wife and I will make a big croc pot meal and use the leftovers for lunches throughout the week. I am the kind of guy that just tosses whatever I feel like in. In today's I tossed in: Frozen chicken breast, sliced potatoes, carrots, cream of mushroom soup, a few big spoonfuls of cottage cheese, a spoonful of sour cream, lime juice, italian dressing.
