My Rig Budget was originally $3,000 than 3,300 with a dual 2405.



ANY OTHER RECOMMENDATION, CRITISM on what I currently have would be appreciated! Thank you!

ALl I need is recoomendation on Harddrive. I need MINIMUM 400gb, per 500gb (excluding the 74gb Raptor I have) Must be SATA.
Dont matter what combination it is (example: One 200gb HD, One 300gb HD, 2x250gb hd, etc)
My Budget is $200 ($250 with tax included)
Oh yeah.. I forgot.. I never used SATA HDD so are they easy to install? (plug n play, or do I need to configure them so my system will pick it up?

That board supports SATA-II. Windows install should work without needing any drivers for the SATA drive. I have a WinXP SP2 CD and it installs with no additional drivers although I have an MSI board.

Now all I need is a SATA Hard drive Storage.. wether its 1 big fat one or 2 small ones.

these are OEM drives, so you need the power and SATA cables for them...

you can save about $15 by buying someone's old floppy off them. IMO, a new floopy drive is NOT worth anything over $5 cause it's only going ot be used for bios flashing

simply Im suffice with AUDIO when it comes to me.
Dont have money growing out and AUDIO is something I can SKIMP on and get it LATER ON if and when I need to.

Hey dont diss my labtec 2.1 Speaker.. Never had ANY TROUBLE with it. Sounds quality is GREAT with very little distorttion. Since im Unable to BLAST the thing, its suffice for me.

You seem to be confused by the words "CRITIQUE", "SUFFICE", "RECOMMENDATION", and "CRITISM"



Ok, no problem upgrading later. Just bringing attention to the fact that your audio budget is really low compared to the rest of your budget. A good sound system can bring a lot to a system.

What kind of "TROUBLE" are you talking about for speaker systems that you managed to avoid with your own?

I'm sorry for "dissing" your labtec speakers.

I thought you wanted a critique of purchases, not a pat on the back.

lol, no you are right...

well I had my fair share of several generic 2.1 speakers, even at low volume, it was distorted or failed on me within a short perioud of time.
these speakers I had for 3 years and I am satified.
I would like to get an audio card but my splurge money is almost out since im just missing a storage HD which by than, Wont have any more money for audio.

I like to know any p180 Users wll see if I will run into any problems with my rig or not.

indeed, i need storage space now.. raptor is too expensive and little storage with my limited budget leftover now.
I just gotta wait for some good rebate deals on seagate HD since most sata seagate has NCQ.

get a dfi or other better OCer.
CPU could be replaced with an equal or lesser one that can be OCed to it for half price.

reason of my rig - intense video editing primary, 3d graphics apps secondary, gaming thirdly.
I wanted DFI but I think it wiill be to much complication for me as I havent done OC'ing and will go stock for the most part.
However I heard Epox does good OC'ing enough to make my 4400+ to 4800+ which is enough me.

but I am curious to know about cheaper 2405 monitor!! pls pls pls link me a place! seeing they go for 1200.

I think he meant that's an expensive monitor, not that you didn't get a good price for it.

yea what YOyoYOhowsDAjello said is right. your monitor budget is equal to my computer budget. i'm not too familiar with what intense video editing and 3d graphics apps really need in terms of resolution so i guess i can't judge you there.

you already agreed on this but thought mentioning: you should get a SATA drive instead of your raptor if you need space. you could use your raid as a boot drive and a sata drive as storage or just get a 250gb one for the same price you paid for your raptor. the 250gb seagate 7200.8 and the western digital caviar SE16 (16mb of cache) are around $120, shipped.

granted im not familiar with SATA, this will be my first SATA setup.

I will have my raptor running my apps, OS

and I assume, 2x250gb will be raid... or can I raid all 3 of them..?... or should I raid raptor + 1 of the 250gb HD?

Do you know what the different types of RAID do?

I just run drives without RAID and it works fine for me.

I don't get increased chance of failure from RAID 0 and get full capacity of the drives that I would lose through RAID 1. There are others out there if you want to buy more drives, but I don't think RAID is necessarily the way to go.

If you already have a faster boot drive, then it's even less of a benefit it seems.

For important data you could manually copy the files to both drives and then make a DVD backup as well.
