Alright, just to get a few things clear, the wishlist is missing a few things (a DVD drive and a hard drive). Those are coming from his old PC, and he's reusing Windows XP Home from his old PC as well.

Newegg Wishlist linkage

Anyways, comments? Criticism? Ideas?

He's planning on some light-medium overclocking, hence the DFI board. He doesn't really want to spend much more than that. He's getting a new comp due to the black friday deals, and that's about all I can think of.

Anything anyone can see, errors wise?

Looks alright. You may want to consider spending the extra $50 or so to get a Core 2 Duo E6300 ($180) + motherboard (~$120) instead. The better performance may be worth it depending on what the computer will be used for.

He was complaining about when I wanted to add the Scythe fan so he could get better overclocking abilities. He mainly wants it to use it to play video games at decent resolutions/settings.
Not sure if he'd go for the upgrade to conroe.

His current comp has 256MB RAM + a 64MB integrated video and a Athlon XP. It's ANCIENT.

What's a good overclocking motherboard for conroe? Maybe I'll look into it. I mean for only $50-70 bucks the upgrade is immense, right?

I'm still running an Athlon XP myself but I've been researching because I'm planning to upgrade.

The Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 is supposed to be a good board.

To help with the extra expense he could skip the Scythe and use the E6300's stock cooler. It's good enough for some moderate overclocking (upwards of 3GHz I've heard).

Have a look at AnandTech's review to get an idea of the performance difference between Core 2 Duo and the AMD X2.

Hmmm, looks pretty nice. I'll need to talk to him about that, cause I wouldn't want him to get stuck with a subpar processor. E6300 + that Gigabyte looks good.

Anyone else have any real hands on experience with some good Conroe motherboards? Not to discredit what you said Nohr, but I always would like a second opinion + some real experience rather than hearsay.
