go for dfi for oc or msi k8n diamond or something
else
sli performance of asus a8n sli delux ask others
saw in magazine that gigabyte and msi had better offerings ,but ask others

consider asus a8n-e if you don't want sli but ok oc
ask others

Dual 6600 GT's ia not a good idea IMO.
A single 6800 GT is faster when using AA/AF.
That PSU is way too weak for an SLI setup. With only 17A @+12V, it might not even post. Get a much better one.

Yeah there are a few things wrong....don't use the SLI setup, go with a single 6800GT. I would maybe go with a diferent board, but to each his own. I would consider maybe going with a larger HD, maybe something with NCQ. A really good idea is to lose that processor and go with a 3200+ venice core instead!!!!

1. Get A64 3000+ or 3200+ venice and overclock
2. Scrap SLI altogether. It's cheaper to get a 6800GT and a cheaper board for more performance.
3. #2 above is still not best, I'd get DFI or MSI nforce 4 board and X800XL for $260-270 PCIe (best bang for the buck imo).
4. Get Twinmos or Gskill value ram to overclock at 3.4V on the DFI board. Or see Patriot LLK 2-3-2-5 ram for a bit more. Otherwise, get even cheaper value ram ie. $80 for 1 gig.
5. That PSU is not sufficient for SLI. For SLI get something like Enermax 495 or 565 or Antec 550. Otherwise Forton 400 or Tagan 480 are great.
6. Why not SATA hard drive this late in the game?

Yes what everyone said about the dual 6600GT's...

The only way I could recommend getting dual 6600GT's if you plan on running 4 monitors at the same time. Otherwise it's a huge waste of money.

1 6800GT and a cheaper motherboard will save you about $50.00 and INCREASE your performance.

Or you could wait till NEXT GEN GPU which we pray will be out in the next few months. The specs are not entirely clear but most of us are expecting double digit improvement over SLI systems. mmmmm.......

get regular value corsair RAM instead

get a real PSU

get a 3000 instead of the 3500

with these changes, you will have enough money to get 2 6800NU's at least. that will smoke the rig you have proposed in SLI.

err... on second thought maybe you shoudn't be overclocking...
Basic OCing is not difficult, but you should do a lot of reading and research before you start. No OC is guaranteed, and you can break stuff. (I cooked my brother-in-law's 2.8 P4 Northwood the other day. My first equipment-breaking OC. 🙁 It kind of made him happy though; nothing like a forced upgrade. 😀)

Again, if you want to OC, go for it. But read and ask questions first and know what you're getting into before you start. And don't be intimidated by people calling you "n00b" or "stupid" or whatever; everybody was a n00b at some point. 😉

alright i modified the system tell me what you think

that totaling to 475, now i'm just torn on whether to get a x800xl for $270 or a evga 6800gt for 370

that being said, all i need is to learn how to oc and im set!

Go for SLi, but just buy one 6800gt. You can get another later on as an upgrade. I'd get a venice 3000+ over a winchester, and their prices are supposed to be within $5 of each other. Also, get a psu from a good brand, with a high wattage and amps supplied. Also, consider getting an msi mobo. They are extremely stable. I'd reccomend my DFI, but that's only if you overclock. If u do, get the DFI; it is a very nice board.

I would highly recommend reading through this guide regarding power supplies: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=792566

Bottom line: most case+PSU bundles are not going to cut it for OC'ing, or even general computing -- that's how junky the "el cheapo" PSUs are. Get a *quality* power supply from a quality manufacturer (Antec, Fortron, Enermax, Sparkle and a couple others) and make sure your components are getting stable, up-to-spec voltage levels. :thumbup;

The wattage isn't all that matters on a PSU. You have to look at the amperage on the +12V rails. 24+ should be sufficient if you're running 1 video card.

heres my updated proposed system...tell me if there is still somethign wrong with it

now, all i need is to learn how to oc?

If you are serious about trying to OC, you should get some different RAM to make things easier on you. I would suggest OCZ Value VX.

It's about $40 more, but it will be fast, should OC well, and it's a good match for the DFI board. Review of OCZ Value VX.

An also, if you want to push your proc hard, an aftermarket heatsink is something you should think about. You could do it now or later. I've found Thermalright's stuff to be excellent. The XP-90 is a good choice matched with a Panaflo fan. I use one for my own system to good effect.

Everything else looks good based on your strategy.

Now its looking real good. Maybe go for the $365 6800GT Leadtek card (and its 2 free bundled games and a quieter cooling system). Otherwise, I'd get x800xl for now for $260 or so and maybe upgrade to new generation cards in 6 months or so.

if you really want to overclock the corsair value isn't gonna get you anywhere...its good ram but just not for overclocking. go with some twinmos or value vx both take a lot of voltage that the dfi is able to give.

although i am nto gonna go sli in the near future, i don't think that leadtek fan (its huge) is gonna let be SLI when i have to..lol
