Ok, just looking for some tips on my new future system specs. I have a budget of about 2k. I already have the case. Most of all i'm looking for ways to improve it but keep it at or around $2k. I want to keep the motherboard top-of-the-line so that theres a lot of room for future upgrades as better technology comes out. I dont plan on buying an entire new PC for a few years, so this is what i've come up with. Any Suggestions?

I suppose you are right regarding DX10, but it is kind of concerning that ATI and AMD are now one...and i'm planning an intel system.... I dunno. Everyone keeps saying to wait...i've waited sooo long, haha. Now that i'm ready to buy, people are still saying to wait. lol. I have a feeling that if i wait, and the time comes again to buy, someone will say, WAIT! And in the meanwhile, my current PC is getting more and more obsolete....not to mention its starting to sound like a vacuum cleaner with a cat caught in it...

That's a lot of money. You can certainly get it down a bit without hurting performance so much.

Are you going to OC the cpu?

Plan on ever going SLI (adding a second video card)?

Yes i do plan on upgrading to SLI but obviously that would be very expensive at the current time, plus prices will come down eventually on the 8800's and it would be a nice upgrade...no? I would like to get a quad core cpu in the future, and this motherboard is quad compatible. I do want to OC. I also plan on upgrading to 4gb ram.

Right now i have an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ OC'd to a 3000+ so i have some experience with it.

You're spending a good bit for having the SLI option. Doubling the cost of the motherboard, not to mention the cost of the second card. At what resolution are you planning on gaming?

I would make that decision before you invest in an SLI motherboard. After all you could pick up a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 board for maybe $115. Intel's chipsets are better than Nvidia's as well, IMO. A single 8800 GTS or GTX will be plenty for 1440x900, and even for 1680x1050 for all current games. Crysis could change that, but it's maybe 8-10 months away.
