1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
This will be a "closet fileserver" running linux, torrentflux, samba and an ftp server. Beyond the bare performance required to run those applications, my primary goals are silence and energy efficiency.
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
Less than $400
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
United States, state of Indiana
4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
No fanboyism whatsoever, I want the best parts at the best value
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
No recycled parts.
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
Yeah, I posted a thread about it and this is the result of some research I've done.
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
No overclocking
8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Very soon.
Here's what I have:
JetWay J7F4K1G5D-PB VIA NanoBGA C7 Processor VIA CN700 Mini ITX Motherboard/CPU Combo $99.99

APEX MI-100 Black Steel Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case 250W Power Supply $55.99

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $99.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16822136218
Kingston ValueRAM 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Desktop Memory Model KVR533D2N4/1G $21.99

LITE-ON Black SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model DH-16D3S-04 - OEM $17.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16827106261
Total: $295.95 at Newegg
Question: Should I replace the PSU with an 80plus? Or is the included 250w going to be energy efficient and quiet? I still have a little bit of money left in my budget, but I'd rather not go too much higher if I can avoid it.
Question: The mobo/cpu combo comes with a stock fan. Is it possible to replace that with a passive cooling solution?
And of course, I'm open to any other recommendations.
