Critique and suggest video card for my ultimate gaming machine, please.

OS: Win98SE
3COM 905CX-TXNM PCI 10/100 network card
Video Card: ???

Please let me know what you think of those specs and if I need to change anything in your opinion. The only thing I'm debating above is whether to go with the Phillips Acoustic Sound card instead of the SantaCruz.

For my video card, I'd like to buy a Geforce 3 card when they become alittle more advanced and older (when we see something like a Geforce 3 Ultra or somethin). For now I'm looking to stay in the $250-$400 price range for a video card. I was looking at benchmarks and I saw that Geforce 2 Pro cards perform almost exactly the same as the Geforce 2 Ultras so I'm thinking about a Pro card. I like nVidia too. None of that ATI crap. 🙂

Eh, right this second if money is no object, a geforce 2 ultra with some 5ns memory, if it is available. Nothing can compete with it; dollar for dollar right now, the radeon le.

Save your money and get a GF2 Pro now so you can get a GF3 Ultra or something when they come out.

what games do ya play the most?
maybe get a geforce gts pro, or voodoo5, and then later on get a geforce3 or what ever if you really need more card. let them work the bugs out of the geforce3 and wait till the price comes down. voodoo5's are cheap, and will last ya while, unless tribes2 is your main game, even thou the V5 will play the game it's not the best card for it.

I agree, Get a 32 meg geforce 2 pro and overclock it until the geforce 3's come out.
