I like the motivation, just the implementation scares me.  Funny how I was thinking "Medusa", too, even before scrolling down after going to the links!  
 
You should probably try to countersink some fan posts from the bottom to suspend a fan above it.  Think high speed fan! 
 
Also, you do realize you probably have less surface area than most heatsinks due to the arrangement?  Thinner wire, symmetrically arranged (staggered rows?) will most likely provide better results.
One last thing, clean her before using her!  Clean copper transfers heat much better than dirty copper.  It sure looks like it is retaining alot of tarnish.  Now go clean it up and take a new snapshot!  hehe
