I don't see a sink....but I do think you have a fungus problem in your motherboard.

Hmm interesting, not sure it would sell very well. How have you attached the copper 'pipes' to the base, are they silver soldered or just a push fit? Looks like it could be quite difficult to attach.
nice effort tho'

for now I just had a cheapy 120mm strapped to the case (ala zalman) but it totally blows away the superorb in the same config. Need some better testing not using the onboard thermodohicky. This was just the first try and I'd do some things different and better but seems to work good, simplistic construction and materials are readily available. Prototype two this week. I'd sell them after testing and some practice.

Mingon, I agree this is only for the "most discriminating hobbists"

the wires are soldered in, next one will be brased

I really like the "urchin". It would sell huge in Japan because of the food.

If I could find (build) a polycarbonate globe to put it in it would be too neat.

maybe a copper thick walled section about an inch high attached to the base with an o-ring sealed dome on top of the mess of wires. that would be nice... a few little fish moving around....anenomie?

Thats one heck of an H.S. The idea is to have as much surface area as possible too contact as much air as possible thus drawing out the heat. And thats got to be the most interesting translation I've ever seen. Kudos

How long did that take. Do you have tendonitis now:)

I vote for "Medusa"

Littlenikki, not too long. Only thing that slows ya down is not having a proper chop saw or an 1 1/4 inch drill bit.
Great names ISAslot

Thanks both.

Getting some smaller wire tonight for version two. This technique would work great for clock gen chips (smaller) and I'm figuring out DIMM ram sinks too.

I like the motivation, just the implementation scares me. Funny how I was thinking "Medusa", too, even before scrolling down after going to the links! :)

You should probably try to countersink some fan posts from the bottom to suspend a fan above it. Think high speed fan! :)

Also, you do realize you probably have less surface area than most heatsinks due to the arrangement? Thinner wire, symmetrically arranged (staggered rows?) will most likely provide better results.

One last thing, clean her before using her! Clean copper transfers heat much better than dirty copper. It sure looks like it is retaining alot of tarnish. Now go clean it up and take a new snapshot! hehe

seems to work pretty good without a fan so I was thinking low speed quiet, we will see

aaaaaah...

scared the hell out of me.

Medusa is fitting :)

Pick up some of that TarnX or CLR stuff and it should make it spiffy-clean.

That is the scariest damn heatsink I have ever seen! ;) It looks cool though. If you cleaned them up a little, but made them look pretty much the same I'm willing to bet those things would sell very well!! Just picture that scary thing in an all aluminum case with neon lights... The scariest computer of all time! :)

I like the scary idea,
Scary Medusa
Scary Urchin
Scary Cold Mop
Scary Chia Sink
Copper Scary

I think I need to get a thermistor in this puppy and put up some numbers.
