Well, the one I'm on now is a 12ms DVI doesn't seem to hurt my eyes and cost right around $400. The last 19" CRT I bought cost me about the same (of course that was a few years ago). LCD prices have dropped alot in the last 6 months......

CRTs are older so their prices are pretty static LCD prices will continue to improve and drop eventually I may buy an LCD when they get better then CRTs (I might even forgive the lack of black) but for now I prefer CRTs

what lack of black? There is color adustment for a reason. there is no reason for someone to not buy a lcd. yes, prices will drop but the technology is definitely mature. LCDs were first produced in 1968, and epson produced the frist lcd tv in 1985. new? hardly.

as for 6ms hurting your eyes, what is there to hurt? LCDs are much easier on the eyes than a CRT. first, it is a mostly static image until a pixe deicdes to change sothere is no flickering asociated with a CRT that can be detectable by some up to 100hz. Second, there is almost no radiation to slowly kill you besides the minimal amount released by the flourescent light behind the lcd. geometry can also be a issue with crts which arent perfect flat tubes. you will never be able to get it perfect.

Price is also comparable for lower and higher refresh models. 8ms 19" lcds start at $375. sure you can get a 21" fir the same price, but in realtiy, it offers only 1" more screen space, isnt perfect flat unti; you reach $429 range and has all the issues mentioned above.

LCDs are physically incapable of producing black, its a limitation of LCDs in general, this causes the darker colors to run together, play Doom 3 and you'll see what I mean. Flickering in CRTs is for the average person unnoticable over 80hz, radiation is a non issue the US National Research Council determined after a 3 year study CRTs do not pose a threat to human health. Geometry can imperfect on both CRTs and LCDs, the curve if the tube doesn't produce any noticable distortion. To get a quality 19" LCD (NEC Multisync) costs $450, while a 21" CRT (Samsung) costs $450, the CRT has more screen area, and can do higher resolutions. You didn't address the horrible color reprodution on most cheap LCDs. As endgame said earlier to each his own I prefer CRTs, and alot of people prefer LCDs its a matter of preference.

I haven't owned a CRT for about 5 years. Granted, my 15 in and later 17 in LCD's left a lot to be desired, but my latest LCD, the Dell 20.1 in (UltraVision 2001FP) is the BOMB! I will take it over a CRT any day.

Ok, I understand that for a lot of people CRTs are the only choice when it comes to gaming. For me, though, it is the saved desk space and weight of the panel that matters most. I have made up my mind to get an LCD when I do upgrade the monitor. In any case, that is not relavent to what I am about to purchase.

To get back on topic, does everything else seem good on my system? What about the bios issues I mentioned with the venice core? Thanks for your help.
