Critical Process Died Error

Hey All,
I'm just going to throw this out there and see if anyone has any ideas.

Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 with Hyper-V Role as Host Server
VM: Windows Server 2012 STD - File Server
Trying to upgrade the VM to Server 2012 R2
Three attempts = 3 Critical Process Errors
csrss.exe WIN8_DRIVER_FAULT
Always during the expanding files section of the install process
At first thought it might be related to disk space on C (was about 28GB free) but I increased the size of the vhd and still got the error.
Of course, Im not really finding any hits on this error in general.

Thoughts? Ideas?

I upgraded a DC on the same host that was also running Srv 2012 STD with out a hitch.

Seeing as its failing on a driver, and about the only drivers that i could potentially see it failing on would be the Hyper-V Integration Services, so i would remove those and see if it will work.

Or unless you have any pass through enabled devices, you many need to remove those from the vm config first

and it could not hurt to make sure that you have all the latest windows updates done first.

Thanks for the input. Last night I tried again after disabling the MS Hyper-V S3 CAP Video Adaptor. This time it made it all the was through to the beginning of the reboots during the actuall installation. Of course, then after one reboot I was at the screen saying the upgrade failed and that the system was rolling back to the original OS.

So now have to dig through to see why the upgrade failed. If I remember correctly, the screen noted the OS was not compatible, which is odd since its a Srv 2012 STD install that Im trying to upgrade.

Will post again when I have more news.
