Critical Mass..

Similar thing happened to me once. A bunch of thugs surrounded my car at a stop light and started smacking on the windows and screaming at me. I ended up just driving through them, hitting quite a few of them on the way, and ran the stop light.

Yep, been trapped in one down in the Loop one day.

Personally I think the city should employ all the crazy Pakistani cab drivers we have to chase them making it like the running of the bulls. We could sell it on PPV.

California sure seems like a nice place to live at times, but that state really seems to have an above-normal amount of idiocy. "The city's generally hands-off attitude leaves cops as little more than bystanders." WTF?

There is a lot of ****** like that here. In SF hit and runs are NOT a crime (provided there's no injuries). If you witness someone smashing into a parked car or something, get its license plate # and call the cops, they literally will do nothing about it. It's ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure a few bikers would be dead if they did that to me. I'm going to slam on the gas if you form an angry mob around my car and start slamming on my windows trying to get in.

So if a biker swings his bike at me and causes a gash above my eye and I retaliate by running him over with my car am I in the right?

If it were just me...it would get a bit ugly, but I would rather not create a huge scene.

If my kids are in the car, and you are smashing windows, somebody is going under the tire.

Someone needs to fix the body of an older car so that they can make it charged, so when the bikers get out of control, flip a switch and they get a few volts through the 'ole ticker.

It would be tough to arrest all of them...and for what? A traffic ticket?

In this case, the police didn't seem to do anything, though...which they should have

critical massclysts are a bunch of crazies

that said, some fat lady almost ran me over while i was riding to work.... passed me with about 3 inches to spare

Who is up for driving a bunch of Ford Excursions around SF on the last Friday of a month?

hell, I'll play devil's advocate 😀

We ahve them in Chicago, but it seems that even over recent years they've become much smaller than what they are in SF, and even NY. Personally, I've never had a problem with it (I very rarely drive, and haven't been causght in one) I think the larger problem here is that while some cyclists may be assholes, (riding on the sidewalk; demanding you get out of their way) plenty of them are not. Many of them are forced onto the sidewalk b/c the drivers are so freaking terrible around here. Many have no qualms about running into a cyclist with their vehicle, and for no reason. A few friends and aquaintances of mine have been struck by vehicles, some minor some pretty severe.

This incident in SF, of course, is way out of line. Such unstructured events tend to attract a lot of hard-core anarchists with unstable personality/mood disroders, who simply wouldn't give a ****** about causing some damage (not all anarchists are like this, though. some are quite peaceful, as silly as they may sound to some of you). If these things had a little more organization, incidents like this could be avoided.

although, I do agree with Fobot. I would enjoy seeing a helicopter descend over a swarm of cyclists.

That city is full of hippies anyway. I think the driver should have just layed on the horn and started rolling forward. Although she'd probably get sued and lose. It's a $hitty situation.
