maybe i've watched too many tv show/movies, but investigating crimes seems like it might be an interesting job. anyone here actually do that for a living? how do you like it? what does it take to do something like this?

VERY boring. First, you don't get to carry a gun around. And you don't actually investigate crimes. You go to a crime scene, take photos... go to the morgue if you have to... do tests.. write your report, and give it to the detectives.

I'm not one, but i had a psych prof that worked with the police often, and he told us how it was really like.

you have to start off as a regular police officer before you can advance to be a detective in most cases.

so is there such a thing as an interesting or fun job?

Yes...but it's something that is completely based on your own interests and skills. You may well love being a "CSI," but you can be sure it's nothing like TV.

I was just thinking about CSI: Miami is a joke.......every day is sunny and 80, and all the victims are either beautiful rich women, or young tourists girls who want to get drunk and go clubbin....I am all for this, but don't poor people ever get killed???

And who designed the "Crime Lab" a club promoter? It looks like the lab used to be a techno club....and I am sorry, but there are not any Medical Examiners that look that good.

well, 1st off, i'm not basing this off of working with hot women or stuff like that.
2nd, i don't watch csi, never have and probably never will. what i meant was more like being a detective or fbi agent. investigating a crime in that aspect.

yes though most people will never realize or achieve that goal.

can you name a few?

I'm sure a lot of men at one point dreamt of being the all-star player of a major sports team. I'm sure models and actors also love their jobs and the perks that go with it. Like I said, most of the enjoyable jobs are out of reach for most people.

Sure, but nobody seems to care whether the criminal gets caught/charged for it.

and besides the job you're really drooling over is an actor who plays a detective on tv because that's what you actually saw, not real detective work.

Most crimes are mundane.
But there are many different aspects of policework, and one may appeal to you.
You can have a go at almost anything within the force, foot patrol, driving, computers etc. (So said a retired police officer to me once a while ago, I can't remember exactly what he said).
There are a lot of varied opportunities.
