Cricket Muve ZTE No-Contract Phone $30

Just picked one up. I expected something like those cheap Chinese tablets, but it's actually rather snappy. Reports are that it can run 3D games just fine. The display is ordinary -- good color, good sharpness, but both shift as you rotate the phone. 4GB microSD card included, but you can only use 1GB. The other 3GB is for the Muve music service. Mixed reports on whether larger cards will work.

All plastic body is very light, but touchscreen is a little sticky (not as slick as Gorilla Glass.)

Reports are that battery doesn't last very long, but it seems OK to me so far.

Was a pain to install ADB drivers, but that's all working now. Can be rooted with zergRush. cpuinfo reports:

Code:
Processor : ARMv6-compatible processor rev 5 (v6l)
BogoMIPS : 599.65
Features : swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp java
CPU implementer : 0x41
CPU architecture: 6TEJ
CPU variant : 0x1
CPU part : 0xb36
CPU revision : 5

Hardware : QCT MSM7x27 FFA
Revision : 0000
Serial : 0000000000000000

That implies a Qualcomm 7x27, which is a relatively potent little chip according to smartphonebenchmarks.

There appears to be some interest in getting CM7 working, but there aren't many owners, so don't expect too much.

It's actually not a bad little phone (I played with it at the store), but the cricket service itself seems somewhat overpriced. If you just need barebones, there are better alternatives, including the walmart service for $45 per month.

320x240 display, 600mhz cpu. 110 megs of internal storage for apps + SD card.

This is what your average entre level android phone for pre pay is coming to these days. As one who owns an LG optimus which is a spitting image, I'll tell you what to expect.

The cpu is functional, and the 2.3 OS means you will be able to run everything out there for android. It probably comes with a good GPU to help with a somewhat enjoyable UI experience. 320x240 screens are still plenty enough for non power users too. I still enjoy my old ipod touch and LG just the same.

You will not be playing any fast paced games.. period. Not even the flinging of fowl kin alike. It isn't really a gpu issue, these games need cpu power too and the 600mhz is not enough. Also if you start collecting apps like pokemon, you will run out of memory fast. While many apps can be moved to the SD card, some can't, and 100 megs fills up real fast. This is the biggest crutch for these first generation 2.1+ phones, low storage memory.

lastly of course, make sure cricket has a plan that you can work with.
