You need to follow my golden rule.

Unless its family, friend, or a food/package delivery person...a knocked door NEVER gets opened. This is for both safety and anti-annoyance reasons.

You folks are paranoid. I talk and socialize with my neighbors every time we see each other outside. Rarely do we knock on each others doors though, especially at 2 in the a.m.

I don't like the fact that he breaks the unspoken rule of this apartment complex - which is don't speak to your neighbour unless absolutely necessary.

that sounds like a sucky place to live.
sounds like my kind of place actually........

We would prefer that life wasnt like this but some neighbors are dangerous, now matter how nice or expensive the neighborhood is.

OK......quit giving excuses for you being antisacial or just admid that you are.......

I don't want to talk to my neighbors because I don't give a fvck what is going on in their lives. No different that the chick in the check out line at the grocery store. I may ask "how are you" but I really don't give a fvck and if they reply with anything other than "I'm great/ fine" they have broken the unspoken rule. Don't give me the BS about making new friends either............most neighbors will never be "friends"..................

In my experience, neighbors get to know you, then get all nosey and all up in your business. I like my life nice and private, with friends on my terms. More convenient and safe that way. I'm too protective of my family and property to even let most people know where I live.
Sad, but times are different these days, unlike when I grew up, you'd just leave your house unlocked and nobody would bother you. :(

You have to seperate the two. I can leave my house unlocked and no one will bother me because the respect is there. Are we "friends"? No. Do we say anything other than hi/bye? Not really. Are we watching out for each other? Yes.

When I grew up, minus the nostalgia of "we were close knit", it was the same................

Im antisacial? WTF is that?

Check back.....I was just quoted before I caught the mistake............................and even if I didn't catch it doesn't make you funny so give up..................

You smoke crack dont you.

no....but its quite obvious your mom did............

Your mommas a chipmunk!

The person who moved in next door is creepy.

He has the eyes of a drug addict (glazed-over, dull, like there is no intelligent life below the surface).

He knocked on the door at 2 am the other morning, asking for an "emergency number" to call to get someone to help him get into his flat (he had, apparently, locked himself out). I said I don't have such a number. He said, petulantly, "Well do you have any tools?" No, actually, I don't.

Later I heard him bashing and smashing his way into his flat.

Just now he knocked on the door asking for sticky tape. I said I didn't have any (altho actually I do have some).

I don't like the fact that he breaks the unspoken rule of this apartment complex - which is don't speak to your neighbour unless absolutely necessary.

Maybe I am being overly judgemental - but something about him makes me think he is the type to break in and steal everything I own.

Then again - maybe I am one of those people who is destroying the fabric of society by being so insular and suspicious of people.

Has anyone else had experiences with creepy neighbours?

so if an apt building, why not just concact the super to get into the appt?

fences are nice

it doesn't keep them away. some freak was knocking on my parents door nonstop. they live in a nice normal neighborhood, big single family homes in san jose. this freak kept knocking, screaming for us to open up, and gave a list of names of people that he needed to see that didn't live there.

we call the cops, he says i'm looking for this person and that, and we said that they don't live here. they told him to go away.

my parents get visited by the cops again. they had a report that someone called in a report that they heard a woman screaming from my house. they came in, figured out it wasn't our house and left. they got the same report for my neighbors. and another for the house ACROSS THE STREET.

they managed to find the pothead on the street behind ours, living in the house behind ours. they cited him, but it won't help cuz i don't think he's going to shut up. fences don't help.
Thats why the founders wrote the 2nd amendment. That will help.

i think the guy is really messed up. my mom called me yesterday and said the guy left flowers and a bottle of XO on our front porch. my parents do not need this kind of annoyance. my mom is freaked out just to pull into the garage of our house because she's afraid he might run in the garage as she's pulling in.

No kidding. Everyplace I've lived I've met at least one nice person and was at the very least cordial to everyone else. Sure there were some freaks but if you never talk to anyone else how are you going to make friends etc. What do you suppose people say about you?

I have some close friends now who I met 10-15 years ago as neighbors.

I did make a very good friend at my last place. I'm not usually this uncharitable, it's just that something about this guy seems menacing or threatening.

So run him over.
