My guess is that they are hoping to benefit somehow from the 'friendship' between MJ and their children.

A parent who was truly concerned about their child and not looking for 'perks' would never, ever, ever let their child alone with MJ... or anyone else who displayed such bizarre behavior and intense interest in children.

Sick people in power (have money, position (like a priest) etc) can often get to children because the PARENTS are unwilling or unable to see the game that is being played.
