The only way around this is to provide a bogus number. If someone requests your info though and can't get a hold of you, they might contact Ebay and get you in trouble. If that happens, Ebay might yank your account.

Why, he did buy it now but didn't want to pay for shipping then expects me to send it out the next day, item was won on late friday night, sat morn.

Doesn't ebay notify you when someone requests your contact info? They always used to, and you'd get the requesters info as well.
