for your credit score, do you want a higher or lower credit score? mine at 646 right now that accoring to providian.

How is that you knew enough to actually check your credit score, but don't understand the basic concept of how it works?

😕

Sweet, which company? I have a national city CC

My score was 785 this summer but in the last month I have requested that my credit card credit-limit be increased from $17k to $30k.

How much do you figure that caused my credit score to drop?

Credit limit has no effect on credit score.

Credit limit has no effect on credit score.

It does affect the ratio depending how much he owes on credit cards. It's best to owe less than 25% of your total credit lines....

so, for example, let's say Edprush owes $7,000 on his $17,000 credit limit and that was his only credit card. He owes 41% of his total balance. If his credit line was then increased to $30k, he then only owes 23% of his total available credit line, and that could increase his score by a lot.

If he owes nothing on credit cards, higher credit lines can hurt because creditors see all of that available cash as a risk compared to smaller untapped balances.

QFT both of you.

The more credit you have given to you, relative to how much you owe, the better your score.

providian credit score is based on the experian credit bearu

It can be based on TU or Experian, it clearly tells you which one, it should usually be TU. It's also a true FICO score which is great.

Just to make things easier here is a simple few steps to understanding your credit

1. The more credit you have available to you to spend, the better your score

EX: You can have 3 credit cards with $5,000 limit on each, but as long as you don't owe more than 2,500 on each one and pay your minimum payments on time your credit will actually go UP!

2. Making a big purchase strengthens your credit within a few months

EX: Buying a car, house, boat This is because they can see you can commit to a large sum of money and pay it off on time

3. The higher the score the better, anything over 700 is decent.

4. As long as you never owe more than 50% of the credit AVAILABLE to you and you make payments on time, then you are considered a responsible creditor

In case anyone thinks im bullshitting my credit score is an 815, the highest is 850.
