Credit Rewards /w Google Wallet

So I have been under the assumption that we would not receive the extra rewards based on categories. I was under that assumption I guess just due to word of mouth. I always heard it would only work /w Citi cards since they support Google Wallet. However, am I wrong with this? It looks like Google relays the category code that the merchant uses already? If so, this makes it quite a bit more likely I will use Google wallet a lot more often.

So to me it looks like category rewards would work, but maybe merchant specific rewards would not?
