Normally, no. The only way it would is a) It involved back rent and the landlord reported you to collections, or b) You listed the place on a rental application and they checked.

so it appears that it would only be if it involves money not paid, and not the simple fact of being kicked out???

Reading the link he posted, it appears that it would have to involve some kind of judgement. Since a judgement cannot be rendered unless there is some sort of damages involved, I think you're fine as long as the landlord is not out any money.

I can't see getting kicked out and being up to date on payments would affect it at all. There isn't a section in one's credit report for "Filthy tenant who listens to bass at 130 db in the early morning and cranks porno too loud during the day" ;)

MANY landlords use a rental scan service on potential tennants. Part of that service checks to see if a previous landlord ever filed for an eviction on you. Here in Minneapolis, it is common practice for landlords to file on you once you are 5 days late on your rent. If you pay, they just don't carry though with it. However, just the act of them filing on you is public record and shows up on these rental scans. It doesn't normally show up on a credit report unless they actually sue you for monies owed but it does show up on the search these firms use.

I had a roommate about 12 years ago that took my part of the rent on the 1st and didn't tell me she didn't have her half. I got an eviction notice in the mail on the 15th of the month. I went down and took care of the rent and all that but the fact that they even filed showed up on the rental search every time I applied for an apartment for 7 years. Fortunately, my subsequent landlords believed my story when I explained it to them.

I agree. Just getting kicked out/evicted I highly doubt would appear on your credit report but if you owe back rent/deposit/or other expenses due to the owner of the property then yes that can show on your credit report.
